Abnormal load escorted from Sutton Bridge to Wisbech




Crowds came out to watch a slow-moving abnormal load on Sunday morning.

Police worked with the Allelys haulage firm to take a generator from Sutton Bridge to Wisbech, with the convoy travelling at 10mph.

The journey began at 9am, with West Bank, Bridge Road, the A17, Wisbech Road and Main Road all affected en route to Lynn Road in Wisbech.

The generator in question was about 89m (292 ft) long, 5m wide (16.5ft), and 5m high. The weight of the components is said to be 706020kg (706 tonnes).

Once the load reached Lynn Road, the generator remained there until transhipment, with the end destination Walpole.
