Wisbech Business and Professional Men’s Club welcome snooker legends Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor
Snooker legends Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor helped a town club to celebrate a milestone anniversary.
Wisbech Business and Professional Men’s Club hosted the event at the Hop Rooms on North Brink to celebrate the club’s 50th anniversary on Wednesday, with former World Championship MC Richard Beare compering.
Club chairman Derrick Holmes and the committee put on this function and six-time world champ Davis and 1985 winner Taylor each gave 30-minute presentations about their careers, with funny anecdotes, before an hour’s question and answer session.
Some 150 members and guests attended the event and enjoyed a buffet provided by The Blues Restaurant in Wisbech.
On the night there was also a raffle with the first prize being a signed snooker cue, snooker triangle, and ball. The raffle raised about £1,000.
From the night in excess of £800 was raised for the chairman’s charity, the Alan Hudson Day Treatment Centre.
Press and media secretary Phil Pilbeam said: “It was an absolute success.
“I've had lots of messages saying what a wonderful event it was and how much of a good time they had.
“Steve and Dennis have passed on their appreciation for a well-organised event as well and they thoroughly enjoyed the night.”
