Spectacular feast of arts events across Cambridgeshire announced in The Library Presents Autumn season
The Library Presents has announced its packed tenth season of arts-based events based in libraries throughout the autumn.
Tickets are now available to purchase for this year’s eclectic programme, which includes a fantastic and diverse offering of world-class live music, dance, magic, theatre, and circus with events for all ages, adults and families.
The Library Presents’ exciting programme of over 60 events will run October 1 to December 13, and is bigger and better than ever before.
The upcoming seasons workshops and performances range from award winning folk music to interactive visual events, as well as returning family favourites from past seasons, including the ever-popular ‘Graffiti Classics’. Cambridgeshire residents can now buy tickets for all the events, which range from £2 to £10, which include options to ‘pay what you think’, family saver and free companion tickets for disabled audience members.
For those who enjoy live music, the Autumn season will welcome a host of award-winning music performers, and the programme includes an evening with Ninebarrow, a musical duo who will impress audiences with their innovative and captivating take on the folk tradition, history and storytelling. The Library Presents is also excited to host the popular Celtic band The Meadows as a part of their new ‘Dreamless Days’ tour. Described as ‘the youngest veterans in British music’, their music will mesmerise audiences of all ages, and evoke the culture, myths, legends and beauty of the band’s ancient homeland of Wales.
Theatre-lovers will have the opportunity to help to solve the whodunit murder mystery ‘The Killer Question’, an interactive dark comedy thriller performed by Just Some Theatre. For those wanting to jump into the past, this season welcomes the return of ‘Time & Again Theatre’, this time presenting the historical drama, ‘Earwig’, based in the roaring ‘20s.
The Autumn season will also include a whole host of magical events, and an intriguing new addition to this season’s programme is ‘Larkhall’, a piano concert combined with a cinematic performance that uses creative coding to turn live music into reactive visual projections. For another captivating evening that the whole family will enjoy, the acclaimed, five-star international magician Scoop Magic will delight and amaze with two hours of illusions, mind-control and danger.
There are plenty of fun events for parents with younger children. For those who love a library-based adventure, Story Detectives will stage a ‘Playful’ and ‘Particular’ journey around your local library to collect letters, solve clues, and build an adventure story with children through a unique dance adventure described as ‘thrilling, enjoyable, and most importantly, extremely interactive’. Puppet performances of family favourites also feature in the programme, as well as adventurous stories told through theatre, mime and music.
As well as performances, the programme also includes a range of fun workshops in art, Indian dance, ceramics, glass, circus skills, and writing, with something different for everyone. The Autumn programme of events has been developed with the help of Cambridgeshire residents, who were invited to choose from past seasons their favourite performances and workshops that they would like to see in their local library.
Commenting on the upcoming season, Councillor Tom Sanderson, Chair of the County Council's Communities, Social Mobility and Inclusion Committee said: “Everyone is welcome to the Autumn Season programme of events and I’m proud to say that it will be even more accessible than ever before.
“Certain events in the season will include enhanced accessibility to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy them. This ranges from relaxed performances (autism and neurodiverse friendly), performances with a BSL interpreter and staff who speak BSL to welcome audiences, and include seating, building access, toilets to accommodate audience members using mobility aids and hearing loops. Service animals are welcome at all events and audience members can also get in touch with us to make specific access requests.”
The Library Presents is run by Cambridgeshire County Council and works in conjunction with Babylon ARTS, based in Ely.
