Wisbech Splashpad reopens for summer fun

Families can once again enjoy a summer of water-filled fun as Wisbech Splashpad reopens today (Friday) – just in time for the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Fenland District Council’s popular play facility in Wisbech Park will be open daily from 9am to 5pm, with free entry for all.

Since its launch in 2022, the splashpad has been a much-loved attraction for residents and visitors alike, offering a variety of water fountains and jets to keep children active and cool on hot summer days.

In March, the council’s cabinet committed to making the facility even more appealing and accessible by agreeing a further £60,000 investment.

Planned improvements, scheduled to start next year, include the installation of a shaded seating area, new benches, enhanced water features and a programme of landscaping works to further improve the surroundings.

The enhancements form part of district councillors’ wider Fenland Inspire! campaign, a three-year initiative aimed at enhancing community sport, leisure and open space facilities across the district.

Cllr Peter Murphy, the council’s portfolio holder responsible for parks and open spaces, said: “We’re thrilled to reopen the Wisbech Splashpad for another summer of fun. It’s fantastic to see families enjoying this wonderful facility and our planned improvements will make it even better for everyone to use. We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors alike for a fantastic summer season.”

Cllr Samantha Hoy, of Wisbech Town Council and a district council cabinet member, added: “The Wisbech Splashpad has been an amazing success since it first opened, providing a fun, free space for families to enjoy during the warmer months. We’re delighted to be reopening it in time for the sunny May Bank Holiday and proud to be investing further in the facility as part of our Fenland Inspire! programme.”

The facility was developed in 2022 as part of Wisbech’s Growing Fenland project and made possible thanks to funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority’s Market Towns programme.

As well as the range of fountains and jets, the Splashpad’s state-of-the-art features include sequenced displays, touchpads to control water supply and an automatic timer to ensure that water is conserved when the facilities are not in use.

The splashpad will be open daily throughout the summer from 9am to 5pm, with weekend opening made possible thanks to support from Wisbech Town Council.
