Staff and students celebrate GCSE results at Peele Community College in Long Sutton

Students and staff at Peele Community College in Long Sutton are celebrating today as the GCSE results are published.

Four students have achieved 10 higher level GCSE passes at grades of 9-4, equal to the former A*-C grades, and they are Liam Braithwaite, Nathan Cropley, Ruby Hamilton and Alice Lenton.

A further nine students have also gained nine passes at these higher grades - Shannon Almey, Jay Bunn, James Cox, Charlotte Drew, Daniel Kimber, Amy Palmer, Holly Taylor-Hart, Kirsty Wattam and Darcy Webb.

Head teacher Jane Moody said Peele's five A*-C equivalent score is 42 per cent and overall progress is above the Government 'Floor' target.

Mrs Moody said: "It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students and staff that this years' results build on the outcomes achieved last year.

"This is the first year of the new style of GCSEs in Science, Modern Languages, Humanities and Food Preparation and Nutrition, so the bar has been raised for all students across the country. With the new numerical grades (9-1), and removal of coursework, Year 11 students have faced a tougher set of GCSEs than before."

As well as the high flyers, Mrs Moody said some had worked particularly hard during their time at The Peele Community College and had gained grades up to two higher than the ones predicted.

Among them are Kayleigh Britton, Megija Zvaigzne, Jay Bunn, Joice Correia and Charlie Rosendale.

There were some 133 students in the year group.

Mrs Moody said the results showed positive progress for the majority and an improvement overall for the year group.

She said: "We are delighted that so many students have achieved the grades that they need to take the next step in their chosen paths, with the majority moving on to college or starting apprenticeships.

"Subjects that have done particularly well include Statistics, French, Maths and Biology. The majority of subjects have shown an improvement on the grades produced last year and we will be working hard to improve these still further for students at The Peele.

"Special congratulations go to five year 9 and 10 students who took their Modern Language exams early this year and achieved A or A* - these are Wiktoria Dzwonkowska, Fabienne Kauw and Linda Brijs (all A*) and Ana Ferreira and Julia Trzeciak (A Grades)."

While Mrs Moody is pleased with the results, she says there is room for improvement.

She said: "For these students - under these circumstances - they have done really well but there is room for improvement, there's always room for improvement."

One of the star students, Alice Lenton, will go to sixth form in King's Lynn to study sciences and maths and hopes one day to pursue a career in nursing.
