Stepping back in time for March’s Aria Court care home silent disco

Residents of Aria Court care home in March put on their dancing shoes and stepped into a world of music and lights at a special silent disco event.

Held at the neighbouring St Wendreda’s Church hall, the evening was a vibrant celebration of music, movement, and community spirit.

The event was inspired by the residents themselves, who had enjoyed a previous silent disco session at the care home and requested a bigger, follow-up event.

Lifestyle coordinator Kanina O’Neil shared how she loves making moments for our residents, “It is wonderful to see some of our residents’ faces when they put the headphones on and hear some of their favourite music.”

With disco lights setting the scene, attendees could select one of three disco channels and enjoy the sounds of the 50s, 60s, or 70s through their headphones.

The nostalgia-filled playlists brought smiles and spontaneous dance moves, proving once again the power of music to uplift and connect people across generations.

The event was well attended by residents, family members, and Aria Court team members, who joined in the fun.

Beyond the dancing, guests were treated to a delicious buffet prepared by Aria Court’s catering team, and a raffle was held to raise funds for St Wendreda’s steeple repair.

This is the latest of a number of events organised by the team at Aria Court to aid the church spire repair fund - a cause which Aria Court is passionate about. Work needs to be carried out which, in turn, will allow the church bells to be rung out from the medieval church again.

Kanina added: Thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes and contributed to this meaningful cause.

“The success of this second silent disco at Aria Court highlights the incredible benefits that music can have for older people including boosting memory, encouraging social interaction and improving mood as well as encouraging physical activity.

“The silent disco at Aria Court was a testament to the unifying power of music.

“Seeing residents come together to share the joy of music and dance was truly heart warming. Events like these not only provide entertainment but also enrich lives, proving that age is no barrier to enjoying music, having fun and making moments together.”
