College of West Anglia Wisbech student Leah Levett takes top spot in photography competition for picture of Rodney the goat

A college student has shown off her animal photography skills and won a competition.

Leah Levett, who is studying a Level 2 CG Diploma in Animal Care at the College of West Anglia’s Wisbech Campus, submitted the photo of Rodney the goat to judge Kerry Heathcote, deputy CEO and vice principal for curriculum and quality.

Impressed by the work, she announced that Leah took the top spot for the animal category, alongside her peers Daisy Wain, who is undertaking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management, and Emily Lockwood, who is taking a Level 3 National Diploma in Animal Management.

The competition invited the young photographers to capture high-quality images across three categories:

- Equine – A photo of one of the college horses.

- Animal – Outdoor animals from the Wisbech or Cambridge campus animal units.

- Canine – Their own dog or a staff member’s dog, photographed in an outdoor setting.

Students were encouraged to think carefully about composition and background details to ensure the highest quality images.

“It was an absolute delight to judge the photography competition,” Kerry said.

“One of the most striking things about the images, was the talent of the photographers in capturing the personalities of their subjects - a fabulous array of animal magic.”

The competition not only gave students a chance to show their skills but also provided them with an opportunity to engage more deeply with their subject, demonstrating the diversity of the animals they work with as part of their studies.
