Two Wisbech surgeries to leave larger group

Two Wisbech GP surgeries are to leave a group of practices next month and become independent.

Partners of the Clarkson Surgery in De Havilland Road and the Trinity Surgery in St Augustines Road say the break will help them better meet the needs of patients in Wisbech.

A joint statement reads: "After much deliberation Trinity Surgery and Clarkson Surgery have decided to leave the Octagon Group of Medical Practices and become independent surgeries in Wisbech.

"Both practices joined the larger Octagon Medical Practice (OMP) in 2019; after consultation with patients, patient pParticipation group and staff at both premises; and joined 14 other practices that did the same. The decision to join OMP was taken as part of the wider ‘GP five year forward view” initiative that the Government had initiated and encouraged Primary Care to follow.

"Over the past year, both Trinity and Clarkson surgeries recognised that the health needs of the patients of Wisbech would be better met by independent practices.

"Both Trinity Surgery and Clarkson Surgery are members of the Wisbech Primary Care Network (PCN) along with North Brink and Parson Drove Surgeries. The four Wisbech practices are working collaboratively and there is a real opportunity for the Wisbech PCN to improve healthcare services for the local population.

"OMP, Trinity Surgery and Clarkson Surgery have come to a mutual agreement to work separately and Trinity and Clarkson will become independent on October 1.

"There will not be any impact to patients, ongoing care will remain the same; the practices will continue to operate in the same way they are currently. Contact details, staff and services will remain the same. All staff are being retained with no redundancies.

"Practice websites for Trinity and Clarkson will change but phone numbers will remain the same.

"Trinity and Clarkson Surgeries want to thank patients for their continued support and will continue to provide the same high quality patient care."
