Tesco has announced it is finally opening a store in Chatteris - three years after it abandoned its purpose built premises in the town
Chatteris is finally getting a Tesco store as the supermarket giant starts a staff recruitment drive in the town.
Just exactly what format the store will take is as yet unclear but they are currently advertising jobs including a store manager, assistant manager and customer assistant for the premises off Fenland Way.
Two weeks ago a spokesman for Tesco suggested the firm had only applied to Fenland District Council for an alcohol licence for its mothballed store to enable them to find a new tenant to sit alongside Poundstretcher, which has occupied half the building since February.
Today the spokesman said: "We have been working to ensure a positive future for our Chatteris site and are pleased to now be recruiting. We will share further details at a later date and welcome applications from the community in the meantime."
There have been rumours Tesco will be using the other half of the site, which it abandoned in 2015, to launch a rival brand to the likes of Aldi, which is already established in Chatteris, and Lidl in March.
The job adverts say: "All roles will be at the heart of the day to day operation to support the entire customer journey.
"No two days are the same, so if you like a varied role where you are in control of the customer experience, whether it be baking bread, filling the shelves, or making sure the store is a safe place for colleagues to work and customers to shop, wed love to hear from you.
"There are shifts to suit everyone, starting from 5am and finishing at 11pm across all days of the week. Being flexible with your working pattern is essential.
"Were looking for people who are happy to roll their sleeves up and work together in a small team.
"You'll be at the heart of our store and our customer experience, so you'll be expected to:
* Get stuck in and take responsibility for getting things done across every area of the store
* Make quick and effective decisions with both customers and the stores operation in mind
* Share your ideas and take time to listen to each other
* Be proud of our products
"We're proud to have an inclusive culture at Tesco where everyone is welcome and truly feels able to be themselves. Our aim is to attract and welcome a diverse range applicants from all walks of life to help improve and develop our team every day."
Applicants have until August 10 to apply for the various roles which are available at: https://www.leisurejobs.com/job/2026825/new-store-format-chatteris/
