Trainees awarded qualifications and join Wisbech St Mary firm’s team
A Wisbech St Mary-based grower has awarded its latest group of trainees who have completed their two-year traineeship with their certificates and qualifications.
Five trainees completed the Volmary traineeship this year.
They are Keegan Pearce, Larissa Cooper, Claire Elliott, Joseph Loveridge, and Nicole Hempson who all met the criteria to succeed through weekly practical ‘on the job’ training and classroom learning.
The traineeship culminates in a series of examinations and projects to demonstrate what the trainees have learned as well as to practically implement.
Four of the trainees now have full-time positions in the company and Volmary looks forward to continuing their training and supporting them in their future roles.
Wayne Eady, managing director said: “I am delighted that since we founded our training school with help from Fenland District Council, we have been able to continue to support trainees to succeed in horticultural roles.
“We have several employees who stayed with us after their courses and I am delighted that four of those completing their recent award will remain with us and have bright futures. The scheme is open to all ages and aims to accept up to five trainees each year to a two-year programme.
“It is important both to our industry and to our business that we continue to grow and invest in our horticultural team at a time when entrants to the sector are so few and labour shortages impact a grower's ability to develop. We are now starting to fill the list of new trainees for September 2024 and look forward to interviewing candidates in the next few weeks.”
