Trial of Wisbech murder suspect David Newton set to continue tomorrow




The trial of a 70-year-old who has denied murdering his elderly neighbour in Wisbech is set to continue tomorrow.

We are three weeks into the trial of David Newton, of Magazine Close, who is accused of murdering 86-year-old Una Crown in January 2013.

The jury, who have been listening to the trial at Cambridge Crown Court, are not sitting today.

Crown prosecutor John Price KC finished reading evidence against Newton yesterday, with defence expected to start mitigating for him tomorrow.

The trial has been estimated to last four to five weeks.

Mrs Crown’s body was found by a family member on January 13, 2013. She had been stabbed multiple times to the neck and chest and her body had been set on fire.
