Trust Edison to light up Sutton Bridge school
Young hearts are experiencing about puppy love at Sutton Bridge Westmere Community Primary School with a brand new addition to the classroom.
But unlike the song by Canadian pop star Paul Anka and American heartthrob Donny Osmond, the puppy in question is a real one.
Edison, a 15-week-old Yorkshire Terrier, has been a fixture at Westmere since January after a meeting between senior staff and school governors last October.
Executive headteacher Karyn Wiles said: “I bought Edison a week before Christmas after we discussed the potential of having a school dog at a governors’ meeting last term.
“We made the decision to go ahead as a means of improving behaviour and helping vulnerable children who may be having a tough time at home.
“Edison’s kennel name is Glow-worm but I thought naming him after Thomas Edison (the American inventor of the elctric light bulb) would suit him better.
“The children call him Eddie for short and if the children have done some good work, they’ll show it to Edison and he’ll usually chew the corners of the paper.
“He’s such good fun to have around and the children absolutely love him.
“Edison is probaly the most stroked puppy in the land at this point in time.”
