Chatteris councillors approve grants for Peter Pan Pre-School and Women’s Institute at latest meeting
Grants of £500 for two organisations were approved at the latest Chatteris Town Council meeting.
On Tuesday evening, the majority of councillors were in favour of grants that were requested by Peter Pan Pre-School and the Women's Institute (WI) – both based in Chatteris.
The first grant approved was for a new storage shed at the pre-school.
Mayor Linda Ashley said the school is open five days a week during term time and that they have a lot of stuff that needs storing. She said: “Everything that they have there is used on rotation, and they have to use it for different things.
“They have asked for the grant, which they will match fund. It is a charity and is a not-for-profit organisation.
Cllr Ashley said she looked into how much a smaller shed would be, and is happy to provide the education establishment a maximum grant of £500.
The second grant accepted at the meeting was for a tail lift for the WI bus.
Cllr Ashley said the cost for one is between £650 and £850, and most members are elderly with very limited mobility.
She said: “The lift will ensure that all members will be able to go on trips.” However, the organisation did not ask for a specific amount.
Any money that is still needed after the grant will be made up by members who are willing to contribute.
“They never come to us for anything and they have never asked for anything, so I would like to recommend £500 towards that cost and then the members put the rest towards it.”
