Victory is sweet family affair in Fenland's corniest corn-petition of the year
The corniest corn-petition in the district attracted a lot of wannabe champions on Sunday to the Skylark Garden Centre in Wimblington.
The centre was hosting its seventh annual Fenland Sweetcorn Eating Competition compered by radio presenter John Devine.
Competitors came from around the region to see if they could chomp more cobs than their fellow contestants.
There were two heats for children and adults, the winners of each of the heats then went through to the final where the adults had a chance to win £100 cash with a supersoaker water squirter up for grabs for the winning child - as well as trophies.
Participants had to eat as many corn-on-the-cobs as they could in three minutes.
It turned out to be a family affair with father and daughter team, John and Lou Lou Sicheri from Huntingdon, winning the two titles up for grabs.
John managed four cobs while Lou Lou chomped down three.
Edward Gowler, owner of Skylark, said: “The sweetcorn competition is the highlight of the summer season for me and the staff, it’s great fun for all the families who take part….and it’s a wonderful way to celebrate an excellent local Fenland crop”
