Walkers raising charity cash with Star Shine event in Wisbech

Members of the public are being encouraged to clap and cheer if they see groups of walkers travelling through Wisbech next Saturday evening.

Some 175 people of all ages are taking part in the first Star Shine Night Walk to be held in Wisbech on May 17, in aid of the Alan Hudson Centre, run by the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity. The charity already holds an annual walk in Cambridge.

Toni Bird, the community partnership lead at the Alan Hudson, has organised the six kilometre (3.7 miles) walk, which will start and finish in the grounds of Elgood’s Brewery on North Brink.

Toni said: “Arthur Rank always holds its own walk in Cambridge and people have to travel, but I thought it would be lovely to hold our own event here in Wisbech.

“Elgood’s has agreed to open up their grounds for us, so it promises to be a lovely event as the grounds aren’t open that often, and our walkers will be able to enjoy them when they complete their walk.

“Star Shine Night Walk Wisbech brings people together for a stroll through the iconic streets of the town, creating a special time to remember and celebrate the lives of loved ones.

“It will help raise valuable funds, but it will also hopefully raise awareness of what we do at the Alan Hudson Centre.”

The Wisbech walk is now fully subscribed, but people can still sign up for the annual Arthur Rank Star Shine Walk in Cambridge on June 21, through the charity’s website.

Arthur Rank provides palliative and end of life care to patients in their own homes across Fenland, as well as the services provided at the Alan Hudson Centre.
