Are we so great on the environment, consumer standards and workers’ rights?

Many poured scorn over the omission of the ‘level playing field’ part of Theresa May’s Brexit Withdrawal Agreement Bill.

This was supposed to keep the ‘Free UK’ under the watchful eyes of the EU on matters concerning the environment, consumer standards and workers’ rights.

If our environmental credentials are so fantastic under the EU, why have Extinction Rebellion brought the capital to a standstill?Consumer standards? The horse meat scandal – wasn’t that whilst we were members of the EU and didn’t the mislabelled horse meat come from the EU originally?

Workers’ rights. What a joke! Steel workers in the UK penniless and jobless due to our being forced to buy cheap, imported steel.

Our trawlermen jobless because of EU fishing quotas. Our farmers forced to send produce, or live animals abroad for slaughter, and live on meagre subsidies.

Free movement? Jobs, school places, benefits? Have you struggled with these issues over the last few years?

We want to continue the sterling work our nation does concerning its carbon footprint and create jobs for our citizens.

Ashley Smith,

March.
