Remnants of cannabis farm dumped in Sutton Bridge reported as fly-tipping concern to South Holland District Council
Remnants of a cannabis farm dumped on the side of a road is one of a series of fly-tipping issues which are blighting a village.
Sutton Bridge Cllrcillors have been highlighting the problems with fly-tipping in the village for some time - and residents leaving out the bin bags on the wrong days is also compounding the trouble.
Debris from a cannabis farm had been left in Kestrel Close - and parish Cllrcillors were told that specialists will need to be called in to remove the mess.
Sutton Bridge ward member, Cllr Michael Booth, highlighted the problem of fly-tipping in the area and the lack of results from the Kingdom - the company which was brought in by South Holland District Cllrcil to tackle enviro-crimes - at a recent Perfomance Monitoring Panel meeting.
Refuse bags being left out on the wrong day is causing a mess in Chestnut Terrace, paris
Residents’ rubbish has also been causing a mess in Chestnut Terrace, adjacent to Bridge Road in Sutton Bridge - as bags had been left out on the wrong day as each road has different collection times.
Cllr Chris Brewis said: “We need to encourage people to be proud of their environment and Cllrtry.
“In Germany and Scandinavia there would be a heavy arm on your shoulder and a fine of 100 Euros there and then if you dropped litter.
“That is why nobody drops litter in those Cllrtries - I think it is getting serious here.”
The bags had been ripped open possibly by animals and rubbish has then been strewn across the road.
Cllr Brewis feels this can be easily solved with residents knowing the correct collection days and not leaving bags out several days earlier.
He also praised the work of the Sutton Bridge Wombles, a group of volunteers led by Deanne Gough and Andy Tilley who regularly keep the area tidy.
He said: “They do an incredible job.
“We will be presenting them with a trophy at the Curlew Centre.
“I am sure they would be absolutely thrilled if new volunteers joined the group.”
The Wombles fill hundreds of bags of rubbish weekly from areas in the village including Railway Lane and the laybys on the A17.
A resident attended a drop-in surgery at the Curlew Centre organised by Sutton Bridge Parish Cllrcil and brought up the topic of rubbish.
Cllrcillors at the parish Cllrcil meeting on Tuesday said they hope that the surgery, where a Cllrcillor is present, encourages more residents to come along and discuss issues in the community.
