Weekly sales return to Wisbech
Weekly sales have returned to Wisbech thanks to a well-known auctioneer.
Richard Barnwell, owner of Clifford Cross Auctions, has taken over the Wednesday and Saturday sales in the auction hall in Cattle Market Chase.
Maxey Grounds & Co gave the auction of chattels in October.
Mr Barnwell has been drawing in crowds of more than 100 people since taking over the sales four weeks ago.
He said: “Going to the auctions is part of the fabric of life in Wisbech and I wanted to keep the tradition alive.
“The sales are going very well. The hall is absolutely packed.
“There must have been 100 to 150 people at the Saturday morning auction.”
A wide variety of items have gone under Mr Barnwell’s hammer – ranging from vegetables and flowers to furniture, cars and Transit vans.
One of the most unusual items was a model of a steam threshing model, which sold for £280.
Mr Barnwell said: “You can save a lot of money by buying things at an auction.”
