Gill Repper, local artist and retired teacher, has donated nearly a dozen spectacular paintings to Hickathrift House Care Home in Marshland St James.

She talked about her about her artwork with residents and then kindly donated 11 pieces, which will be displayed around the home and in residents’ rooms.

Gill, who taught at St Audrey’s Convent and Wisbech Grammar School for 40 years, retired from teaching and has been donating her paintings to local care homes in Wisbech since lockdown.

Hickathrift's activities coordinator, Kat Colangelo, invited Gill to discuss her passion and artwork with residents and share painting tips.

Throughout the afternoon, Gill shared her paintings which depict local scenes as well as favourite holiday destinations including Sandringham, the Norfolk Broads and the hills of Tuscany. Residents listened to Gill over a cup of tea and shared their appreciation for her artwork.

Elsie, resident of Hickathrift House, commented: “The paintings are just wonderful. Gill is amazing and ever so kind for coming to speak with us about them. It makes me appreciate the paintings even more.”

Kat added: “We are delighted with Gill’s generous donation to our home, and would like to say a massive thank you. Not only for the paintings, which are fabulous, but also spending the afternoon discussing them with our residents. Gill’s stories sparked memories for some of the residents and at the end we were reminiscing about previous holidays, pottery classes and trips to art museums when their children were younger.”

“The residents each picked a favourite and will decide where they’d like it hung, either in a communal area or in their rooms. We can’t wait to share the artwork and its history with the whole home. Gill is only the first of many talented locals that we’d love to visit Hickathrift House. If you have a passion or talent and would like to share it with our residents, don’t hesitate to get in contact."
