LEARN MOREPreparations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee at Glennfield Care Home in Wisbech included a special community project.
Everyone at the home decided that they would mark the occasion by making their own special bunting, unique to Glennfield.
They started by inviting team members, residents, loved ones and children from Ladybird Day Nursery (their local nursery) to design their own flag piece.
The artwork could be anything that is important or means something to them, drawn on a blank triangle of fabric.
Once these were submitted, everyone joined together to draw more flags, cut bunting triangles, pin and sew fabrics together, and then join them together to create the bunting.
It was a lot of work, but relatives, team members, friends and people living at the home put in a real team effort.
The people living at the home loved every step of this activity: from sorting through the fabric, to the cutting and pinning, to winding metres of string and drawing it all together.
Each day that the project was taking place, residents kept asking the team members if there was any more that they could do; they truly were so invested in the project and excited to see the final result.
The team at the home wanted to make the most of everyone’s hard work, so the bunting has been backed with a variety of fabrics picked by the people living in the home, so that it can be reversed and used for different occasions in the future.
The activity has had a fabulous community spirit, and everyone has truly come together. It was wonderful to get so many people involved, and Glennfield are so proud to be displaying it for all to see.
