Wisbech Grammar School pupils help town's Rotary Club give gift of Christmas to Eastern European children

For many years, Wisbech Rotary and friends have sent ‘shoeboxes’ filled with goodies to families in Eastern Europe at Christmas time.

This year, students and staff at Wisbech Grammar School generously filled almost 100 Rotary Shoeboxes with a myriad gifts: toys, clothes and essentials were lovingly packed to bring Christmas cheer to children and teenagers from disadvantaged areas in Eastern Europe.

Undeterred by all the extra precautions needed because of the pandemic, the WGS Charity Committee, with head of sixth form Kate Taylor, achieved a great response from families to ensure that many less fortunate young people received a lovely Christmas gift this year.

Richard Barnwell, president of Wisbech Rotary, congratulated the school on their magnificent efforts to spread a little happiness across the world. He sent sincere thanks to the pupils and staff for their generosity and expressed gratitude to Sharon Goates of Eastview Equestrian Centre who most kindly covered the costs of transporting all the boxes to Eastern Europe.
