Wisbech man, 61, vows never to drive again after court conviction

A Wisbech 61-year-old man has told a court his driving days are over after he was caught behind the wheel while disqualified.

Stephen Anthony Ward says he will not drive again following pleading guilty at King's Lynn Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

He had driven a VW Caddy from Wisbech when he was stopped in Lynn's London Road on April 24.

Ward was halfway through a six-month ban imposed last January.

In mitigation, solicitor Ruth Johnson said the disqualification came through totting up after speeding offence and driving while disqualified was a bad mistake.

"He took a risk that he bitterly regrets and it was a risk that he absolutely should not have taken.

"He's lost his unblemished character at 61 years of age," she added.

"He's said to me that's it - he is never going to drive again."

Ward, of West Street, was disqualified from driving for four months, fined £200 and ordered to pay £50 costs and £34 victim surcharge.
