Wisbech man admits drug-driving charge
A 20-year-old Wisbech man has been banned from the roads for drug-driving.
King's Lynn magistrates today heard that Liam Scott was over three times the specified limit for a derivative of cannabis.
He was driving a Ford Fiesta in Wisbech with three other young men as passengers.
Prosecutor Josephine Jones said: “Police officers on patrol noted that he appeared to increase his speed on clocking the police vehicle. That caused them to wonder why.
“They followed and the impression they had was that he was trying to avoid the police’s attention. That ended when he drove into a cul-de-sac.”
A roadside drug wipe in Eastfield Road proved positive and Scott was arrested. An evidential blood test showed 6.3 micrograms per litre, the legal limit being two.
Scott pleaded guilty to drug-driving on August 28.
Mitigating, solicitor George Sorrell said: “There’s no suggestion he was driving badly. He is very remorseful.
“He doesn’t normally take cannabis but, having split with his partner, he was forlorn and for comfort he went out with his friends.
"They offered him cannabis, suggesting it would make him feel better and he foolishly took it. He’s learned a lesson from this.”
The court heard that as a result of the inevitable driving ban he had already lost his job as a labourer in Holbeach.
Scott, of Trinity Road, was disqualified from driving for 12 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £50 costs, plus a £30 victim surcharge.
