Richard Scott, the school's principal, said the pupils involved will continue with their learning from home while they self-isolate for 14 days with support from teachers online.

He added: “Due to our stringent ‘bubbles’ all other students can continue to attend school and should follow national guidelines.

“All students will be able to return to the school, providing they have no symptoms, on Wednesday October 21.”

The town's Orchards Academy had previously reported a non-teaching member of staff had tested positive for the virus. The announcement on October 1 followed on from a similar admission the day before (September 30) from the Neale-Wade Academy in March, that someone at the secondary school had also tested positive.

Cromwell Community College in Chatteris has also had one case of the illness.
