Wisbech student takes billionth byte of the Educake

A Fenland student successfully answered the billionth question on a web-based education resource and was presented with a laptop to mark the milestone.

Thomas Clarkson Academy, Wisbech, is also set to benefit as William Horspool, in Year 11, also won a school prize alongside his own Asus VivoBook and Beats headphones by correctly answering a science question on EduCake.

“Our students have been using the platform for the last five years. Along with the questions set by teachers, students love to download questions and answer them and they get instant feedback from Educake,” said Preetha Raj, head of science.

“It motivates them to do better. The simple layout and carefully chosen questions makes it an effective homework tool for our students,” she added.

Managing director and founder at Educake, Charley Darbishire, visited the academy to make the presentation during assembly.

The academy was given a free science subscription to Educake as the result of William being the lucky winner.

He had to answer the question: “Which travels faster through air, light or sound?” The answer is light - 186,000 miles per second, or 300,000km. Sound is just 0.2miles per second or 0.3km.

Based in Oxford, Educake provides online homework and revision for Key Stage 3 and GCSE subjects.
