Posting on their Facebook page Policing Fenland said last night (Tuesday) saw the police's Demand Hub call handlers inundated with hoax 999 calls from children.
After the 10th call investigative work was carried out to track down the culprits and stop them blocking the lines.
In their post officers highlighted how a 15-year-old boy from Wisbech was traced.
They said:
🔦 Firstly, the call handlers used our systems to identify the phones being used to call us on
🔦 We then used the call data to pinpoint the location of the callers
🔦 Tracked down a mobile phone number relating to a 15 year old boy and a payphone location in Wisbech
🔦 Officers deployed and attended the boy's home address to be greeted by his mother who confirmed his identity
🔦 The boy was then given ‘very’ strong words of advice from our officers and his parents
Officers concluded by stating: "Hoax calling and mis-using our emergency contact lines will not be tolerated."
