March Athletic Club member runs 100 mile Ultra Marathon over weekend

March Athletic Club member Alan Brown took on an immense running challenge over the weekend.

Alan participated in the Chester 100-mile ‘Ultra Marathon’ on Saturday and Sunday.

The course took Alan from Chester up to Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn before he headed back to the start point, hugging the England-Wales border.

Elevations peaked at around 400 metres above sea level during the run.

Tracey Dickerson, March Athletic Club Press Officer, said: “Alan took it all in his stride, despite physical battles with fatigue over such a long distance, and completed the course in an impressive 28:34:43, finishing in an amazing 20th place overall.”

“Somewhat bizarrely to the non-initiated into ultra’s, Alan even claimed to have enjoyed the experience of running for more than 28 hours!”

Alan’s wife Diane, who is also a member at the club, was part of the event team and was able to cheer him on at two checkpoints throughout the race.

She said it was very emotional to see him cross the line and still look so fresh.
