Wisbech cyclists celebrates centenary with a sportive style ride of 100 miles through West Norfolk countryside

The month of May brought a mix of time trial results and celebrations for the Wisbech Wheelers riders as the club celebrated their centenary.

Riders from other local clubs joined the Wheelers as they marked their centenary with a sportive style ride of 100 mile, 100km, and 30 mile, all starting and ending at the Secret Garden in Wisbech St Mary.

The weather made for a great day with the sun shining on us all and a nice breeze which although gave a head wind going out, everyone enjoyed its help on the return.

The 100-mile ride took riders through the Norfolk villages before stopping at Holkham to enjoy the offerings of the café.

They rode through Sandringham and Castle Rising during their return journey.

The 100km (60 mile) riders also enjoyed the Norfolk Countryside as they travelled as far as Sandringham before stopping and enjoying the food there.

They followed an enjoyable picturesque route from Sandringham through Castle Rising and other small villages as they travelled back enjoying the help the gentle backwind gave.

The charity is very important to the Wheelers and thanks to the support of so many on the day and to others who donated online a fantastic total of £1500 was raised for the charity.

Ride London saw hundreds of cyclists take to the roads on May 26 for their own chosen charities.

With conditions considered good on the day with a gentle wind and a slight increase in the temperature, Sewell finished in 1:08:40.

William Horspool travelled over to a very wet Spalding Barrier Bank course where a mechanical issue with his Time Trial bike forced him to ride the 10-mile event on his road bike, completing it in a time of 24:29.

The following week after much rain saw the Kings Lynn 10 TT at Tottenhill take place on surprisingly dry roads, although the wind was still strong.

The only Wheeler to make the journey this week was Veteran Lady Denese Hallahan who completed in the course in 37.42.
