A great win for Wisbech
Wisbech showed that on their day they are a match for any team in the East Anglian Premier League with victory over Great Witchingham.
The home side’s second victory of the season sees them stay bottom of the table but pits them within touching distance of safety.
Newly-promoted Wisbech bowled well after electing to field, and George Bruce took the wickets of both openers among his 3-26 as the Norwich side were reduced to 29-2.
Young George Gowler (2-37 from 12) took the vital wicket of Yasmin Valli, caught behind by Josh Bowers for 49, Gray Freear (2-52) saw Harry Nunn stumped by Bowers for 38 and Bruce had Jacob Rhodes caught by Ryan Clark for 34 as Witchingham were bowled out for 222 from 62.2 overs.
Josh Porter cleaned up the tail with 2-31 and Clark returned figures of 1-41.
In reply, Wisbech put on 62 for their first wicket before Freear was bowled for 39 from 36 balls, which included seven fours. When Josh Bowers went for 15 it was 90-2 with opener Danny Haynes looking strong at the other end.
Clark made 28 to take things to 141-3 and when Haynes was finally out LBW for 79 from 157 balls, the home team were 174-6 and closing in on victory.
A knock of 12 by Gowler and a terrific unbeaten 31 from 47 balls by Bruce, including two fours and two sixes, saw Wisbech home after 59 overs.
March are joint bottom of the Cambs & Hunts Premier League Whitings League Division One after a five wicket defeat at home to Histon in a low scoring affair.
Only Danny Emmington, with 35 from 53 balls, including five fours and a six, really showed any resistance as the home side were bowled out for 79 from 34.5 overs. Robert Tombs hit 10 from 24 balls.
Sam Clarke (2-20) and Phoenix Nightingale (2-25) did their best in reply but Histon reached 82-5 from 29.3 overs.
Wisbech 2nd enjoyed a nine wicket win at City of Ely in the CCA Senior League Division One. After deciding to bat, the home team were dismissed for 152 from 39 overs, Chris Clark taking 4-25 from nine overs, Jamie Gollands 3-39, Joe Dunning 2-31 and Adam Gardner 1-25.
The visitors raced to the winning total of 153-1 from just 24.4 overs, Dom Stannard taking just 71 balls to hit 74, with 12 fours and a six. Fellow opener Thomas Hoyle was 55 not out and Sam Albutt 10 not out.
In the same division, Chatteris went down to a heavy 166 run defeat at Longstanton Grasshoppers. Batting first, the south Cambridgeshire team made 292-4 from their 45 overs, with Matthew Hollis, James Fraser, Max Kelly and Harry Matthews taking wickets. In reply, the visitors were bowled out for 126 from 33.4 overs, Sam Matthews top scoring with 24 at eighth wicket down, Kelly hitting 22, and Harry Matthews and Oliver Tilbrook getting 10 each.
In Division Two March 2nd lost by just eight runs at Madingley. After being asked to bat, the home team were 207 all out from 44 overs, James Hilliard taking 2-23, Lewis Hilliard 2-31, Karl Anderson 2-35, Rob Sedgwick 1-28, Joseph Clark 1-37 and Shane Pooley 1-44.
March came close to victory, but fell just short, opener Anderson leading the way with 51, Nigel Wright hitting 41, Ed Albutt 30, Lewis Hilliard 27, James Mortlock 20 and James Hilliard 20.
In Junior League Three North, Hemingford Park conceded their game at Wisbech 3rd, and in Four North, Wisbech 4th were beaten by seven wickets at Burrell & Exning 3rd. The visitors batted first and 33 from Nick Osbourne, 46 from Joshua Osbourne, 16 from Martin Woolard and 11 from Elliott Peck saw them reach 149 all out from 38.3 overs.
The home side cruised to 151-3 from 24 overs, John Mallett, Oscar Smithee and Tom Freear taking the wickets.
Wimblington lost by 102 runs at Haddenham in Four North. After being put into bat, the home team made 268-7 from their 40 overs, Leon Walker taking a superb 5-28 and Paul King and Kristoffer Judge taking one apiece.
The visitors were all out for 166 off 26.2 overs, despite Judge hitting 15 fours and two sixes in a magnificent 88 from just 52 balls. Opener John Mair scored 23, Leighton Anthony-Saxby 11 and Paul King 15 not out.
In Five North, March 3rd lost by nine wicket at home to Isleham 2nd. A score of 49 from wicket keeper Alun Bradshaw helped take March to 91 all out from 28.3 overs, and the visitors raced to the winning total from 14.3 overs.
