A perfect ten for Upwell Town as Manea United Reserves brushed aside
Games involving Upwell Town this season have contained a lot of goals, with 21 scored and 26 conceded in their eight games before Saturday, so it was no surprise when their trip to a Manea United side who had conceded 50 in 11 outings followed suit.
Former Wisbech Town striker Dan Hempson helped himself to four goals and there were also four for Sam Cubberley as Town beat United 10-4 in Division 4B of the Cambs County League, Benjamin Crowson and Ricky Papworth also on target. Hempson now has 14 in just four games and Cubberley 13 in six. Theo Willis, Liam Birch, Harry Ashwood and Gary Newman netted for United.
In the same division, Chatteris Town A lost 1-0 at home to Willingham Wolves and March Academy Adults triumphed 4-0 at bottom side Outwell Swifts Reserves,Jack Conyard, Callum Kirby and Lee Roberts (2) doing the damage.
4B high-fliers Wisbech St Mary A are through to the next round of the Cambs Lower Junior Cup after a 2-0 home win over 4A promotion chasers Kennett.
March Town Reserves are top of Senior B and six points clear in the promotion places after a 4-2 win at bottom side Swavesey Institute.
Having not played since December 2, the Hares were not at their best and went in at half-time perhaps lucky to be only 1-0 down. With their keeper sin-binned and Keaton Smith taking the gloves, the visitors held on, but eventually conceded another when they were back to 11 men.
Changes were made and sub Liam Monaghan got a tap-in at the back post from a Josh Bryant header across the box to make it 2-1. This soon became 2-2 when new signing Liam Brady played the ball over the top for Harry Powley who was fouled, allowing Seb Goldspink to equalise from the spot.
Brady then released Powley who cut the ball back across the goal, Goldspink dummied and captain Bryant smashed the ball home to make it three goals in seven minutes and put March 3-2 up. Powely secured the points with another penalty.
In 1B, Chatteris Town Reserves beat Great Paxton 2-0, player of the match Charlie Munns and Anesu Terera scoring, but March Town A lost 5-2 at home to Stretham and Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) lost 2-0 at Witchford 96 Reserves.
Outwell Swifts’ 2B promotion hopes took a hit with a 3-2 defeat at fellow challengers Eaton Socon A. Callum Moles and sub Dylan Pevreall netted for Swifts in an impressive last 30 minutes, but by then the visitors were already 3-0 down. Manea United were beaten 5-1 at Littleport Town.
Wisbech St Mary Reserves are through to the semi-finals of the William Coad League Cup after a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win against Histon Hornets, after a 1-1 draw. Freddie Collison was Saints’ star man and Ryan Shinn scored the deciding spot kick.
Doddington Three Lions, of 3B, are out of the John Ablett League Cup after being unable to raise a side for their quarter-final clash at leaders Lakenheath Casuals.
In the Premier Division of the Peterborough League, Tydd missed a chance to move further away from the relegation places when they lost 1-0 at home to fellow strugglers Stamford Belvedere, while in Division One, Long Sutton Athletic lost 4-1 at a strong Netherton United Reserves team, Calvin Bird on target for the Magpies.
Chatteris Town stay in the promotion hunt after a 1-1 draw at Park Farm Pumas, James Cooper scoring and Lewis Steward named player of the match. Wisbech Town Reserves lost 4-2 in their bottom-five clash at Wittering Premiair Reserves, Ben Flowers netting both their goals.
Tydd Reserves lost a nine-goal thriller 5-4 at Hampton in Division Two, Jordi Henson, Jordan Clow, Nick Ainslie and Kyle Davies scoring, and Sutton Bridge United were beaten 3-1 at home to Park Farm Pumas Reserves, Matt Eaton scoring his 20th of the season but Ryan Brothwell dismissed for two bookable offences.
In Division Three, Long Sutton Athletic Reserves were beaten 2-1 at home by Hampton United, Thierry Williams scoring.
Finally, Marshland Saints are back in the Anglian Combination Division Five North promotion places after a 3-1 win at Gayton United Reserves, goals coming from Dave Abbott, Dylan Rust and Jack Brand.
