Fenland Running Club continued its love affair with the Round Norfolk Relay event over the weekend by entering two teams of 17 for the fifth year in succession, to run the 200 miles of the course, tracing the boundaries of the county in a non-stop multi-terrain relay race.

Thr number one event of the year for FRC started in King’s Lynn on Saturday morning with the course going around the coast to Hunstanton (16.8 miles), Burnham Overy Staithe (14.1), Wells next the Sea (5.8), Cley (11.1), Cromer (10.8), Mundesley (7.9), Lessingham (9.2), Horsey (7.5), and then back across the southern edge of Norfolk to Belton (16.6), Earsham (18.1), Scole (12.5), Thetford (19.7), Feltwell (13.3), Wissington (7.3), Downham Market (10.6), Stow Bridge (5.5 ) and back to King’s Lynn (11.7), finishing on Sunday morning.

With teams entered in the Mixed and Open categories, times for the 17 stages by runner were: Stage 1, Andrew Plume 1;53:50; John Chapman 2;22:55. Stage 2, Bethan Everson 1;49:29; Jane Greenwood (Captain) 2:11:53. Stage 3, Maire Irlam (Captain) 0:45:02; Stephen Brunton 1:05:54. Stage 4, Jay Gilbert 1:35:25; Luke Pinner 1:34:38, Rod Sinnott 1:24:31; Andre Pittock 1:34:32. Stage 6, Max Pearson 1:02:22; Michelle Gilbert 1:09:16. Stage 7, Ellen Connolly 1:10:48; Larissa Follen 1:29:55. Stage 8, Nicky Jennings 0:56:23; Joanne Clarke 1:09:16. Stage 9, Graham Milham 1:56:42; Dean Clark 2:14:19. Stage 10, Sean Connolly 2:05:44; Sarah Gauvin 2:28:26. Stage 11, Tim Chapman 1:26:15; Jon Rowell 1:53:12. Stage 12, Richard Hammond 2:20:29; Ryan Jones 2:11:37, Stage 13, Martin Jennings 1:27:53; Tom Richards 1:40:18. Stage 14, Becky Murley 1:00:53; Keith White 1;00:16. Stage 15, Claudia Milburn 1:18:33; Ian Milburn 1:25:38. Stage 16, Trevor Sutherill 0:44:33, Marianne Killick 0:57:38. Stage 17, Carol Bowett 1:39:35; Paulina Zub 1:39:33.

The weather was some of the worst-ever remembered on the opening off-road stages 1-5, with extremely high winds and lashing rain, but as it improved overall the Mixed team finished in 24:38:27 and the Open team in 28:17:47.
