Ely and Marham the destinations for March members as athletes end 2024 strongly

March Athletics Club finished the New Year strong with many club members attending the Ely NYE 10km or the Marham Flyer's NYE 10km.

Firstly, Andrew Jakeman starred in Marham winning the race in 32:45 and Kanina O'Neil-Head narrowly missed a podium spot for the women with yet another fantastic run in 39:56.

Mark Godfrey and Andy Cole both ended the year on a high finishing second in their age categories with Serge Lambert slotting in as the third male for the club between the March stars.

Tina Lambert and Tricia Cole took the second and third spot for the March ladies.

Elsewhere at the Ely NYE 10km, seven runners took on the tough course with strong winds throughout and a steep hill to challenge the runners on the home stretch.

Steve Beasley led the way in 37:50 followed by James Arran, the winner of the club's most improved male runner award, in 47:27. Fiona Graham led the way for the ladies with a strong run with Stephen Ryan hot on her tail.

Jayne Ramsay was second home for the ladies, nearly beating her PB, despite the challenging course.

It wasn't just the seniors enjoying a successful festive period, the juniors were present at the Cambridgeshire Cross Country running event at St Neots.

Rowan Whittlesey was placed fifth in the Boys U11 in a field containing 43 runners.

Luke Royston, Maisie Whittlesey, and Austin and Liberty Sibthorp competed in various races putting their hard work throughout the year in their weekly training sessions to the test and achieving impressive results.

At St Neots, two seniors were also running with Glen Watts and Andrew Jakeman taking to the course and placing 17th and 34th in the race, containing lots of strong athletes.
