Ten-man March Town beat league leaders Downham this evening after a penalty shoot-out.

Despite going down to ten men after 30 minutes, the Hares took the lead before half-time through a Craig Gillies spot kick after Jack Friend was fouled in the area.

Danny Emmington was the player to receive his marching orders after bringing down a Downham player who was through on goal.

March defended resolutely but Downham scored a late equaliser through George Watts-Sturrock and, with no extra time, the match went to spot kicks.

From the March team that lost 4-2 at Mulbarton on Saturday, Scott Callahan was missing and will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery today, Gavin Cooke was also out and Toby Allen and Lewis Gibson started the match on the bench. Downham rested regular first teamers Jack Frohawk, Jon Sykes and Ben Baxter-Hunt and dropped Matt Calvert to the bench.
