Cousins finds Damson Pool at Decoy Lakes fish in a feeding frenzy

By Pete Woodhouse

Wisbech-based Spratts AC fished their latest match on the Damson Pool at Decoy Lakes and found the fish in a feeding frenzy.

The bigger carp showed up and the lake produced some very impressive weights, none better than the 222lb 2oz net caught by winner Trevor Cousins.

He fished banded pellet shallow in the margins on peg 12, netting F1’s and carp to 4lb. In second was Peter Spriggs who caught close in with paste for 172lb 4oz, then came Terry Tribe with 153lb 13oz, also catching close in with pellet.

There is a new leader at the top of the Tuesday Evening points board at Buttonhole fishery after Andy Carter (pictured) put in another fine display to top the match from peg 23, fishing down the margins with paste for 120lb. In second place was Paul Pleasant with 112lb 9oz, followed by John Bishop with 87lb 12oz.

On Saturday the fishery invited teams from local fishing tackle shops to provide a couple of anglers each to fish for the shop in a pairs event. Winners were Anglers Corner duo Dan Simer and Matt Bunting with a combined weight of 168lb 8oz.

There are just a few places left for this Saturday’s qualifier at Buttonhole Fishery and it’s your last chance to get through to the £3,500-plus final, so call Chris Smith for a ticket on 07928 222462 or for the latest venue information.

The Cuckoo Canal Pool at Townsend Fishery produced yet another good result in the latest open match, Alan Owen topping the field with 123lb 2oz taken from peg 17 on maggot and pellet fished close in. Not far behind with 114lb 12oz was Roger Phillips. He alternated between a long and short pole line with pellet, then came Paul Hollingsworth with 86lb 8oz, fishing sweetcorn and pellet.
