ANGLING: Cousins stars at Spratts AC Decoy Lakes Six Island Pool
Spratts AC were back on the Decoy Lakes complex last week, fishing the Six Island Pool that had lost a bit of form since we had a few heavy frost, so prospects did not look too good.
Thankfully there were fish to be had and leading the way with a respectable 44lb 8oz from peg 18 was Trevor Cousins.
He fished the pole with small pieces of worm close in, catching carp and F1’s. In second place from peg 22 was John Garner, who relied on a pole and sweetcorn approach, catching a couple of better fish late in the match on cat meat to finish on 42lb 6oz. Then came Terry Tribe with 27lb 2oz from peg 17.
At a busy Rookery Waters, in the Wednesday Over 60’s match fished on the Magpie Pool, Bob Coulson took the top spot with 81lb 11oz from peg 33. He fished hard and soft pellet on the hook close in. Keeping up his good form of late, Vic German took second overall with 61lb 8oz from peg 36, then came Will Hadley on peg 10 with 60lb 1oz.
The Saturday Winter Qualifier saw a split between two lakes, the now standard Continental Payout would be in place. On the Jay Lake it was James Taylor out in front from peg 40. He fished soft and hard pellet to the far bank to put a very impressive 140lb 2oz on the scales for a comfortable lake win. Second on the lake was Ricky Ashwell on peg 37. He fed dead maggots down the middle with maggot on the hook to weigh in 108lb 8oz.
The Raven lake produced yet another fair match with fish being caught from all areas of the lake. Simon Bond on peg 2 topped the field. He fished maggot over micro pellet on the long pole for 114lb 6oz of carp and f1’s. Will Reynolds on peg 10 also found plenty of bites on soft pellet fished over to finish the match with 99lb 2oz and second place.
Final results based on a Continental Payout: 1 James Taylor – Jay Peg 40 – 140lb 2oz; 2 Richard Bond – Raven Peg 6 – 114lb 6oz; 3 Ricky Ashwell –Jay Peg 37 – 108lb 8oz; 4 Will Reynolds – Peg 10 – 99lb 2oz.
