Buttonhole Lake in Marshland St James stages return of popular tournament qualifier

By Pete Woodhouse

Buttonhole Lake can be found six miles outside of Wisbech in Marshland St James.

It has open matches on a Tuesday evening, 5pm peg draw; entry £14 includes £7 pools, start 5.45pm, finish 9.15pm. The match finishes under lights.

This Saturday will see the return of the popular Buttonhole Lake tournament qualifier. Some 20 anglers have booked in, with the winner claiming their place in September’s two-day final.

The first prize is around £2,000 and prizes are down to fifth place. Pleasure fishing for adults is £7 and £5 for juniors under 16, must be accompanied by an adult.

If a junior wishes to fish between Monday, August 19, and Friday, August 23, as long as they say they saw it in the Fenland Citizen then they can fish free of charge: 16 years and under must have an adult in attendance.
