Tough going at Buttonhole as top rod Paul Billman in second visit bags 32lb and Pawel Nycz takes runner-up spot with 28lb 6oz

The Wednesday Tydd Gote open match fished on the North Level Drain produced a tie for first place between Archie Greenwood and John Taylor, both weighing in 8lb 4oz.

John got off to a great start, catching roach and rudd early in the match.
Archie found the fish later in the day and managed to draw level in the last few minutes to share the spoils.
Pete Emery was third with 6lb 4oz. He caught on both waggler and short pole.

The Sunday club match destined for Main Road had to be relocated due to a layer of ice and weed up to Clough Bridge.
An energetic ice breaking session soon warmed things up but the match itself was a dour affair.
Peg 1 always produces fish even in the worst of conditions and so it proved for Andrew Kilby, who tempted 16 small fish, with Pete Emery the only other catcher with a miniscule roach in the last half hour for second place.

It was tough going at Buttonhole fishery in the Saturday match, but there were still a few fish to be had. Top rod was Paul Billman, making only his second visit to the fishery. He drew peg 20 and kept it really simple, fishing a small feeder with sweetcorn to finish on a level 32lb. In second place was Pawel Nycz, taking runner-up spot from peg 3 with 28lb 6oz.

On a bitterly cold day the brave souls who fished the Over 60’s Open at Rookery Waters on the Magpie lake found a few fish feeding but, for most, it was difficult and cold to say the least. Top spot on the day went to in-form Vic German on peg 28 with 61lb 12oz. He started the match dobbing bread but, as the bites slowed up, he switched to maggot on the hook to keep them coming. Runner-up was Dave Lack with 52lb 8oz, followed by John Millard on 36lb 2oz.

On Saturday it was a Winter Qualifier fished over the Magpie and Raven lakes at Rookery and once again the winter weather is starting to hit home as many anglers struggled for bites. However Magpie lake did produce several 50lb plus weights coming from all over the lake. Lake winner was Adam Playford on peg 21 putting 76lb 6oz on the scales catching on maggot over pellet. Second place went to Simon Skelton on peg 34 with 63lb 14oz, with Dave Pearce Snr third on 56lb 2oz.

Raven Lake was won by Rob Heaton on peg 22 who weighed in 34lb 8oz of carp and f1’s all caught on maggot over pellet. Second on the lake went to Jason Fulcher with 24lb 10oz, with third place going to Nigel Fawkes with 22lb 5oz.

Results based on a continental payout: 1 –Adam Playford – Peg 21 Magpie – 76lb 6oz; 2 – Rob Heaton – Peg 22 Raven – 34lb 08oz; 3 – Simon Skelton – Peg 34 Magpie – 63lb 14oz.
