Wimblington 1sts made it four out of four with a victory at Somersham.
Put into bat first on a drying pitch, Steve Durdant-Hollamby anchored the early part of the innings with a patient 49. After he departed Angus Pate (37*) and Fraser Leader (21*) mixed big shots with clever running between the wickets to leave Wimblington on 163-6 off their 40 overs.
In reply the hosts started cautiously. After Ash Irvine took three wickets in one over for Wimblington their job looked harder. Only Pete Liddle (43) really troubled the visitors’ bowling attack as Somersham were eventually bowled out for 100.
Wimblington seconds lost a low-scoring encounter away to Coton. Batting first on a difficult surface Wimblington made 39, a score that showed itself as the hosts took 34 overs to reach the total.
The Sunday side’s game at Wisbech in the Fenland Trophy was cancelled after the hosts failed to raise a side.
