March assistant looks ahead to the new year with the club fighting for silverware on four fronts

Assistant March Town boss Simon Roberts is predicting an exciting 2025 for supporters with the club challenging for honours on four fronts.

The Hares remain in a play-off position in the United Counties Premier Division South, are in the last 32 of the FA Vase and have cup semi-finals to look forward to in both the Hinchingbrooke Cup and Cambs Invitation Cup.

They ended 2024 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Yaxley on Boxing Day.

Reflecting on the continued progress at the club, Roberts said: "As a football club you want to be in and around the play-offs every year and there's no reason why we can't pick up some silverware as well.

"The dream would be to achieve that.

"Lee (Brownlow), Marc (Welcher) and Chris (Smith) tell me how they are trying to improve and achieve things not at the expense of the football club.

"They are planning and doing everything the right way and haven't gone mad with the playing budget. They've got goals and they are working towards these goals, on and off the pitch.

"I don't feel under any great pressure and I offer what I can to help but the board and committee have got everything sewn up and it's so good to see."

Looking back at his first few months at the club, Roberts added: "The away game at Biggleswade in the FA Vase is one of the highlights for me because of the way we did it.

"That was a very special moment, Emmo (Danny Emmington) popping up with a late winner and seeing the reaction of the supporters behind the goal.

"For me personally, the football club, the players, the board and the supporters have taken me into their club and have been accepting.

"That's the biggest achievement for me on a personal level, how welcome I've been made to feel.

"I get on really well with Ash (Taylor). We have lots of chats and discuss things, he listens and takes things on board and I take things on board from him.

"I'm learning a lot from him, the way he coaches and manages the players."

The Hares climbed to fourth in the United Counties Premier South after a 3-0 win at 14th-place Yaxley.

Matty Foy gave them a fifth-minute lead with his tenth goal of the season and a 21st-minute effort from Danny Emmington - his fifth of the campaign - made it 2-0 at half-time.

Craig Gillies wrapped up the scoring eight minutes after the break with his 14th goal so far.

"I thought we played really well," admitted Roberts after the game.

"We got off to a good start, Matty Foy scored quite early and I think we controlled the game from there.

"We had a couple of moments where we had to defend well but as a group I thought we were exceptional.

"We controlled the ball, we controlled the territories on the pitch and restricted them to very little. The back four, despite not having much to do, I thought were exceptional.

"Everybody worked hard and we scored three good goals. The squad is strong now for the next two or three weeks.

"We've got Harry Edwards and Jay Whyatt back from America and we've got no injuries or suspensions, although we picked up one today with Matty Foy getting a booking.

"It's a strong squad and we can rotate without doing any damage to the line-up and that's a good headache to have."

On the backing of the fans at Yaxley, Roberts added: "The supporters back us home and away. They all have families so to come out and give us that level of support is really good."

March entertain mid-table Lutterworth Town on Saturday.

March: Gill, Burrows, Brumby, Henderson, Emmington, Green (Whyatt), Cotton (Williams), Tait (Biggs), Gillies (Escorcio), Foy (Saunders), Allen.

Star man: Josh Burrows.

Attendance: 104.
