March Bears 2nds prevail in home derby meeting against West Norfolk 2nds
March Bears 2nds 26 West Norfolk 2nds 12
March Bears' second string were too strong for West Norfolk 2nds in a derby clash at Elm Road.
This was a remarkable feat for March as they turned out a full squad of 23 reserves which highlights the development of the club over the past few years.
March opened the scoring after 14 minutes with Scott Conway feeding Man of the Match Kyle Stanford who crashed over the line for a score under the posts which was converted by Sam Howat in his first game back since his serious shoulder dislocation.
West Norfolk were proving to be ambitious opponents and in their pack piled over the line from a ruck for an unconverted score.
This proved to be the last score of the half as the game flowed from end to end.
The second half was only six minutes old when March sent the West Norfolk scrum backwards and Ed Harwin, who had come on as a substitute, picked up the ball to crash through several tackles and went over the line.
Owen Luck opportunistically took advantage of a West Norfolk mistake and his try was converted by Howat whose kicking boots looked like they were shedding their rust after his enforced absence
March second-row Luke Fey was on hand from the loose to gather the ball and carve his way through the Norfolk defence for the home side's final try and Howat added the extras.
But West Norfolk scored with the last move of the game, their fly half broke through several tackles to allow the score to look much more respectable with a converted try.
Before the game, March took ownership of their new electronic scoreboard donated by sponsors GFS Fresh Ltd, with the directors of GFS Fresh present at the match.
