Wisbech Swimming Club celebrate 2023 awards ceremony at Wisbech Town FC facilities
After a two-year break, Wisbech Swimming Club started its holiday festivities early with its annual awards evening – held for the first time at Wisbech Town FC.
The event provided swimmers with an opportunity to collect trophies won at the 2022 Club Championships.
Held over three weeks in November, this yearly competition involved swimmers across all the club’s squads.
The awards evening also saw head coach Greg Marsters present a series of annual awards.
Millie Harris and Connor Loughlin were named club captains for the coming year and were presented with their captain’s shields.
Jenson Stevens received the Nott Johnson Trophy, and Isabella Burton the Robson Pack JFL Trophy, as the male and female swimmers who scored the most points in the 2022 Junior Fenland League.
As the swimmers who scored the most points for the club in the 2022 County Championships, Millie Harris was awarded the Clare Lancaster Cup and Joshua Jones the DS Medals and Trophies Award.
Madison Hicks received the Darren Lynn Trophy as the most promising swimmer aged 12 and under, while Aiste Virzintaite received the Fen Regis Trophy for the same achievement among swimmers aged 13 years and over.
Ebony Smith won the Arles Trophy, presented to a swimmer who has shown dedication and excellence throughout year in all aspects of training, competition and overall attitude.
The club is supported by many volunteers and the evening was an opportunity for the club to recognise this work. Ebony Smith and Isabella Burton shared the Junior Volunteer Award for their continued commitment to the junior squad, and Katie Adams received the Adult Volunteer Award.
The evening topped off a very successful year for the club, which included representation at regional and national level, and victory in the Junior Fenland League for the third time in its past four iterations.
