Biggest 1300cc Stock Cars event features Wisbech talent
Hot on the heels of last Saturday’s Banger World Final at King’s Lynn’s Adrian Flux Arena, it’s the turn of the 1300cc Stock Cars to have their biggest event of the season at the track this weekend (Saturday, 6pm), with the European Championship up for grabs.
Also in action are the massively popular Micro Bangers, with a full-contact programme completed by Lady Bangers.
The European Championship has attracted a huge entry of the little 1300cc Stock Cars that always provide action-packed races with plenty of hard-hitting bumper-to-bumper action at the Saddlebow Road venue.
A contingent of Scottish drivers will travel down to compete against the local specialists and visitors from the Spedeworth promotion who are more used to racing on tarred tracks than the loose shale that adds to the spectacle at West Norfolk’s premier motorsport venue.
Wisbech is something of a hotbed of talent when it comes to 1300cc Stock Cars. That is reflected by the fact Kevin McClagish, Scott Sparrow and Simon Sparrow, all from the area, have secured their places on the grid for big race.
The last time the title was contested at King’s Lynn, in 2012, another Wisbech driver, Dean Moat, triumphed but he had yet to confirm his participation in this year’s edition at the time of going to press.
Bedford-based Word Champion Adam O’Dell, Essex racer Ian Beaumont, who won last weekend’s meeting final at the track, and top Scottish drivers Craig Haxton and Callum Barclay will be major threats to local success.
Hometown driver Darren Fendley won the Two-Litre Bangers World Championship on Saturday.
He makes a swift return this weekend in Micro Bangers, alongside Wisbech racer Ryan Bartrum. Caroline Garner (Wisbech) and Steph Street (Chatteris) compete in Lady Bangers.
There were wins last weeked in Junior Bangers for Wisbech duo Wayne Cottrill and Lennie Murkin.
