Joseph Gowler and Bob Ground shine for North Cambs EBF team versus Lincolnshire at Sutton St. James Indoor Bowls Club
On Sunday, in their penultimate Derbyshire Trophy match of the season, the North Cambs EBF team beat Lincolnshire on two out of the four rinks but lost by 23 shots overall at Sutton St. James Indoor Bowls Club.
The North Cambs spoons (awarded to the players on the rink that win by the most shots after 25 ends) were won (yet again!) by Joseph Gowler and Bob Ground, this time supported terrifically by Charlie Waling who was playing in Tony Reed’s absence.
North Cambs’ Rink 1 trio of Andy Hailes, Danny Stanton and Matthew Fox lost by 30 shots but the score-line was more down to superb bowling of their three opponents and some terrible luck. The scoreline of 10-40 flattered their opponents, who although deserved to win, were not 30 shots better than the North Cambs rink.
Full result: North Cambs 4 points (80 shots), Lincolnshire 10 points (103 shots). Rink 1 – Andy Hailes, Danny Stanton & Matthew Fox 10, J West 40. Rink 2 – Charlie Waling, Joseph Gowler & Bob Ground 30, G Draper 13. Rink 3 – David Bailey, Simon Peach & Nigel Eagle 29, G Parker 22. Rink 4 – Chris Pope, Frankie Howard & Robert Allen 11, T Bannister 28.
North Cambs’ last Derbyshire Trophy game of this season is on February 2 against the incredibly strong Norfolk side. It will be played at Sutton St. James Indoor Bowling Club and will start at 10am.
