March bow out of FA Cup for a second time
Brave March Town United bowed out of the FA Cup in London at the second time of asking last night (Tuesday).
The Hares had originally lost in the second qualifying round to Grays, who were subsequently kicked out for fielding an ineligible player in the previous round.
But their second bite at the second qualifying round cherry turned sour with a 3-0 defeat at Isthmian League Premier Division Kingstonian, who are three leagues ahead of them in the non-league pyramid.
March piled on the early pressure and thought they had made the ideal start at the King George's Field stadium when Craig Gillies scored, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.
Theophanous shot just wide for Kinstonian after 15 minutes and then saw a shot saved before Gillies went close for March but saw his shot well saved.
Dan Bennett stroked home a left foot drive to give the home side a 39th minute lead and it was 1-0 at half time.
After the break, Fabio had a shot blocked on the line for the home team and March began to feel the effects of their four-hour coach journey as Kingstonian took control of the game.
Theophanous saw another shot saved and Bennett went close before rounding the keeper for his second on 67 minutes. The third came from Youssef Bamba in injury time.
March: Charlie Congreve, Josh Burrows, Dylan Kilford, Mark Bains, Danny Emmington (c), Jamie Short, Jack Rawson (Toby Allen), Adam Rothery (Lewis Gibson), Jack Friend (Flo Tsagium), Scott Callaghan, Craig Gillies. Subs (not used): Connor Mazurek, Luke Pepper.
