Sutton Bridge exit League Cup on a bad day for Fenland teams




A goal by Ben Partridge was not enough for Division Three side Sutton Bridge as they were beaten 3-1 at home to Division Two's Kings Cliffe in the First Round of the Peterborough League Cup.

In the same competition, Leverington Sports Reserves were beaten 5-2 at home to Hampton in an all-Division Two clash, Mariusz Kudyba and Kian Penn scoring, and Division Four side Leverington Sports A went down 5-1 to Division Two visitors Glinton & Northborough, Martin Wright scoring.

Leverington Sports, Long Sutton and their reserve team, Tydd and their reserves and Wisbech Town Reserves received byes into the Second Round.

In the Peterborough League Premier Division, Leverington Sports lost 1-0 at promoted Warboys Town and bottom side Tydd were beaten 7-3 at Netherton United, Bradley Easey scoring twice and Mark Easey also on target.

Tydd Reserves were beaten 3-1 at home to Crowland Town Reserves in Division Two, Ricky Holstead scoring, and in Division Three goals from Jack Thomas and Kieron Wykes were not enough for Long Sutton Athletic Reserves, who were beaten 7-2 at home to Deeping Rangers Development.

Wisbech St Mary are seventh in the Cambridgeshire County League Premier Division after a 2-2 draw at Bassingbourn, Jordan Goult and Karl Tansley on target, and on Friday night March Town Reserves were beaten 4-2 at home to Newmarket Town Reserves, Dom Butt netting twice.

AFC Emneth made it three wins from three and top the Senior A table after a 3-1 win at Milton, who also had a 100% record before this match.

Keenan Hall gave the Honey Badgers the lead from a first half penalty awarded for a handball, but Emneth then missed a second spot kick before the home side equalised. After the break, Toby Allen rifled home from the edge of the box to make it 2-1, and Joe Reed set up the former March and Wisbech striker for his second.

In Senior B, March Town A won 3-2 at home to Sawston Rovers. Lewis Millar opened the scoring with a well worked counter attack, and great work from Josh Bryant saw Liam Monaghan flick home at the near post for 2-0. It was 3-0 at the break as Lewis Millar slotted home from the penalty spot.

March lost the temp after the break, and ended up playing 20 minutes with 10 men after receiving two sin bins, but just held on.

In 2B, Manea United kicked off their season with a 6-1 defeat at Littleport Town, Ben McDermott scoring. Chatteris Town Reserves were beaten 4-0 at home to Stretham.

Outwell Swifts started their season with a 6-0 thrashing of Soham Town Rangers A in 3B, ace striker Adan-Jay Lewis hitting three, Jack Brand two and Ryan Shinn one. AFC Emneth Reserves beat Hemingfords United A 5-0, Bobby Wright scoring twice, and Louis Hite, Ethan Goodale and Peter Ryan also netting.

Benwick Athletic Reserves drew 2-2 at home to Mepal Sports, Ryane Moye and Alan Setchell scoring.

In 4B, Doddington Three Lions beat Alconbury Reserves, Sam Smethurst scoring the all-important goal. Upwell Town drew their first game since switching from the North West Norfolk League, 2-2 at Hartford Rangers Reserves, goals coming from Alex Neve and Aleks Strychala.

Manea United Reserves beat Chatteris Town A 4-0, Freddie Bishop, Liam Birch, Josh Brittin and Anton Kaval scoring. March Academy Adults drew 2-2 at Soham United Youths Men, with Charlie Robinson and sub Lee Roberts scoring, and Guyhirn were beaten 2-0 at Stretham Reserves.
