Nickie Barwell played in the final of the Race to Woodhall Spa after winning her place in the regional final at Stoke Rochford.

Barwell, who has only been playing golf for around two years has seen her handicap fall from 54 to 23.

Barwell and Michelle Gilbert, also a relative newcomer to golf, are forming a family dynasty in the sport, being sisters-in-law and regularly playing golf with their mother-in-law Penny Gilbert.

The March women’s section then enjoyed an away day at Stoke Rochford.

The competition was won by Jackie Atwell, with Margaret Butt and Dianne Parsonage coming in second and third respectively.

Emma Athow, missed the away day as she was invited to play for the Cambs and Hunts

County scratch seco team, at South Beds Golf Course against teams from other counties in the Eastern region.

Athow, who plays off a handicap of six, was joined by a second March player Millie Pearce.

Pearce has worked very hard this year to get her handicap down to 11, making her eligible for the seconds scratch team.
