On Saturday Leverington CC took on Chatteris 2nd XI in the Junior Cup.

Having lost the toss Leverington were put into the field and some determined batting saw the hosts tick along slowly for the first 10 overs without loss.

Finally opener Cobb (1-14) got his only breakthrough with probably his worst ball and a change at the other end, with Buttriss entering the fray, suddenly started to bear fruition.

After drinks with Chatteris just two down Cooper entered the attack and removed three of the home side’s middle order with Buttriss (4-30) doing likewise at the other end. With two wickets remaining Abhay Bagwedi (1-7) and Luke Wilson (1-17) finished things off, with Chatteris finishing 93 all out.

A slow start saw Leverington lose Carter and Dod followed. Andy Reid (16) set about rebuilding with opener Usher (14) with some great running before a debatable decision removed the latter.

The usual Leverington middle order collapse followed, bringing usual opener Gilbert to the crease with Buttriss, and they immediately got the game back into the visitors’ favour.

But with the game seemingly coasting Gilbert (24) was removed and Cobb followed first ball. Another wicket soon fell and at nine down Buttriss (11*) stepped down the track and hit the boundary to seal the win. Next Saturday Leverington host leaders Wilburton.
