2023 awards night for Fenland stock car drivers
Following an outstanding 2022 for Wisbech drivers, it was no surprise to see Fenland’s stars take home plenty of silverware at a stock cars awards night.
National Banger, 1300 Stock Car and Junior Bangers successes from last year were recognised on the evening last week.
Wisbech St Mary driver Brad Bartrum, 23, really has really enjoyed a standout season in the National Bangers.
He established himself as one of the top names in the country and he was one of only two drivers (out of almost 600 who raced in 2023) who managed a top ten place in both the National Points and the Entertainer League – finishing the National Points in second place and the Entertainer Points in fourth.
It is incredibly difficult to do well in both leagues at the same time, but Brad’s performances were excellent.
He has proven to be a top all-round banger star who can both crash with the best and race and get top results against the best.
It was therefore no surprise when Brad also won the big award on the night and was voted Driver’s Driver of the Year, a very special
award which is voted for by Brad’s competitors.
He really was overwhelmed and humbled to be recognised in this way.
James Licquorice was also amongst the major silverware as he picked up his trophy for a great third place finish in the Entertainer League.
The second half of the season saw him have a great battle with Brad over third place, with James just about sealing the place in the last few meetings of the season.
Joel Allen, Aston Gibbons and Nicky Young also picked up merit awards in recognition of their great performances in the National Bangers throughout 2022.
1300 Stock Car drivers who picked up silverware included Tom Alsop – whose 2022 highlight was winning the World of Shale at Bradford’s iconic Odsal Stadium.
He came home in a fantastic fourth place in the National Points, and
Sonny Wright – who came second in the White & Yellow points – also picked up a Merit Award.
Jade Ellis had a big trophy to pick up in the Junior Bangers as a result of being voted most dedicated driver by her fellow drivers.
She also came second in the White & Yellow points as well as picking up a merit award, whilst Riley Crowson was also in the silverware with his great performances in 2022 being recognised with a merit award.
