Former European and Commonwealth Champion Gill to fight in Belfast

Former European and Commonwealth Champion Jordan Gill is stepping back into the ring in December.

After more than 12 months out of action, Gill will fight Michael Conlan in the Irishman's own backyard at SSE Arena in Belfast on December 2.

Gill is stepping up to super featherweight for this contest which should allow him to be more powerful at his natural weight.

Whoever wins this fight will put themselves in pole position for a World Championship fight and the loser will find it difficult to fulfill their dreams of being a World Champion.

Gill, who had been with trainer Dave Coldwell since 2017, is now training with his father Paul Gill back in and around Fenland.

The Chatteris fighter said "This was such a difficult decision for me to leave Dave but I am loving being back in the Fens and seeing my friends when I can.

"This is a fight where I have got to be at my very best and I feel that I am now at a weight that will give me the best chance of winning.

"In hindsight, I should have moved up in weight four or five fights ago as I have been fighting at featherweight since I turned pro at 18."

"We have both beaten Karim Guerfi but since then we have both had setbacks in fights."

"I believe that Conlan will come into the fight as the favourite, especially with him being at home. He is a world class fighter. I am looking forward to putting on a show and upsetting the odds."

Gill last fought Kiko Martinez in October 2022 where he was stopped in the fourth round of a world title eliminator.
