Chatteris racer Zachary Penegar, 6, seeking sponsors for 2020 Cool Fab British Mini Bike Championships
Young Chatteris race ace Zachary Penegar, 6, will be competing in the 2020 Cool Fab British Mini Bike Championships this year.
His family is looking to attract some local businesses as sponsors.
His father Andy explained: "In May 2018 a friend and colleague Scott Dunn gave us tickets to MCN Festival at Peterborough Showground.
"We took our two sons, and Zachary – who was 4 at the time – saw the Arenacross stand where you could try a Kuberg electric motocross bike.
"Zachary tried out the Kuberg Start which is the smallest available machine for riders aged 3-5. He loved it and took to riding immediately. Zach loves bikes and has always been a bit of a daredevil so it was a no-brainer for us to invest in a hobby that we also had a passion for."
The six-year-old's first event was at The Bolesworth International Horse Show where he learned some technique and recorded a second and third place.
The next event at the Goodwood Festival of Speed really gave him the racing bug with a ‘proper’ motocross track, spectators, a real podium ceremony and a TV interview on the big screens. But the Arenacross Academy venture folded and he next raced in May 2019 at the British Superbike Races at Oulton Park.
Andy added: "Soon after we came across some YouTube footage of the Cool-Fab Racing – British Minibikes Championship. Zach was very clear that this is what he wanted to do.
"We got hold of a Baby Blata minimoto off Ebay and went along one Sunday to M4 Karting, Chippenham, for the academy where youngsters get an impressive level of tuition from Sarah Harris and a team of some of the Parents of Cool Fab riders.
"Sarah’s husband Ian Harris at Minimoto Racing Ltd really is the font of all knowledge but made it clear that Zach would soon find the limits of the bike and would need to step up to a Blata Ultima in order to progress and then be able to take part in the 2020 Cool Fab series.
"So with a bit of searching we found a 4 year-old Ultima that went to Ian to get sorted."
Zach is preparing for the new season which kicks off at Llandlow in South Wales on the weekend of March 27-29.
He has a Facebook page – Zachspeed Racing, which will be used to hopefully promote the businesses of any partners that decide to come on-board.
